Frank Gehry is one of the world's most famous architects. Rewarded on many occasions, notably in 1989 with the Pritzker Prize, the equivalent in architecture to the Nobel Prize, his career is strewn with iconic achievements. In Paris, we owe him the Cinémathèque Française and the Louis Vuitton Foundation. But he also lays claim to the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao (Spain), the "Dancing House" in Prague (Czech Republic), the Weisman Art Museum in Minneapolis and the Walt Disney Hall in Los Angeles, in the USA.
Until today, Frank Gehry has only signed his name to a single skyscraper, completed in 2011: 8 Spruce Street (876 ft.) in New York's Financial District. In 2028, this will no longer be the case, with the Forma Condos pair of residential skyscrapers which will change Toronto's skyline. The two towers, 860 and 978 ft. tall (73 and 84 floors), will be comprised of over 2,000 luxury apartments, lifestyle amenities for residents (a large lounge, a theatre, and even a co-working area), and an extension of the Ontario College of Art & Design University. Deconstructed and fragmented, the two towers bear the architect's signature unequivocally. The play on reflections of light throughout the day too, thanks to geometrical frontages made of steel and mirror-like glass. The Forma condominiums will thus give the impression of revolving around themselves. Masterpieces! "Each of the world's cities has its own kind of light […]. I wanted the Forma towers to capture this light and reflect the soul of Toronto," explained Frank Gehry on this subject.
As for interior decor of the Forma Condos residence, it has been entrusted to the Paolo Ferrari Studio based in Toronto. Furnishings are of Scandinavian inspiration, the colours soft and sobre thanks to a choice of natural materials such as wood and limestone. Warm decor, synonymous with peacefulness and serenity, contrasting with the industrial steel of the external facades, and offering future residents a real cocoon!
